Lincoln's Speeches

Please follow the links below and read the Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Address. Allusions to these famous speeches are made in Chapters 20-21 of Cry, the Beloved Country. James Jarvis is affected by these speeches profoundly, just as his son obviously was. In your response journal for these chapters, please specifically comment on YOUR reaction to these speeches, and discuss how they are appropriate to the events of the novel and how they are appropriate to America today.
